The actor, who will turn 40 later this year, seemed far removed from the usual handsome appearance we're used to as he frolicked on the beach in a pair of printed trunks, and instead looked slightly dishevelled and a little overweight.

Making the most of the warm temperatures, the Hollywood A-lister was spotted relaxing on the idyllic beach with a number of pals.

But instead of boasting his usual slender physique and chiseled jaw, he seemed to be carrying a little timber while sporting a full beard and long hair to match.

The star looked like he was having a whale of a time though and was pictured cooling off in the ocean while enjoying a smoke with his friends on a sun lounger.

He wore his hair back in a small ponytail while accessorising his beach look with a pair of stylish sunglasses.

Seeming a little body shy, the 39-year-old wrapped himself in a towel after frolicking in the sea before covering up in a white T-shirt.

Meanwhile, Leo will hit the big screen again next year with upcoming drama The Revenant.

The film follows the story of Hugh Glass, played by Leonardo, who is abandoned by two men after being attacked by a bear while traveling through the woods.
