The film – entitled 'Lend Me Your Ears' and has yet to be independently verified – purportedly shows a British press photographer reading a propaganda script from behind a desk.

Talking to camera, he promises to "convey some facts" in further instalments of similar IS propaganda "programmes".

"Maybe I will live and maybe I will die," he says during the 3m 20s Youtube clip: "But I want to take this opportunity to convey some facts that you can verify. Facts that if you contemplate might help preserving lives."

"I'm going to show you the truth as the western media tries to drag the public back to the abyss of another war with the Islamic State.

There are two sides to every story – think you're getting the whole picture?

The third Briton to be threatened in an IS video

"After two disastrous and hugely unpopular wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, why is it that our governments appear so keen to get involved in yet another unwinnable conflict?

"I'm going to show you the truth behind these systems and motivation of the Islamic State, and how the western media, the very organisation I used to work for can twist and manipulate that truth to the public back home.

"There are two sides to every story – think you're getting the whole picture?"

Unlike previous films from the Islamic State group – which currently controls territory in Syria and Iraq – this film features a British hostage sat behind a desk, speaking to three different cameras positioned around the room.

In the past, video messages from the extremist group have shown the ritualistic beheading of three hostages, including US journalists James Foley and Steven Sotloff, and Scottish aid worker David Haines.

Security expert Frank Gardner told the BBC that the video was a twisted "kind of parody of a chat show" and "very much a propaganda video".

He explained that the hostage was speaking to the camera "under duress".

"It doesn't end with any overt threat... And he's reading from a script, there's no knife or gun being held to his head".

He added that while all previous IS videos have been directed at US and UK leaders, this propaganda tape was meant soley for the British public, particularly Muslims.

On 14 September Alan Henning – a taxi driver from Manchester, who went to Syria as an aid convoy volunteer – was threatened with execution in a video released by Islamic State extremists.
