Sabrina Moss was killed by drug dealers armed with an automatic weapon and a sawn off shotgun as she stood near the targets of a bloody gang turf war.

The mother-of-one was shot in the heart and died in hospital while her friend Sabrina Gachette survived after being hit by more than 50 gunshot pellets.

Gunmen Hassan Hussain, 29, and Yasin James, 20, along with getaway driver Martell Warren, 24, were each jailed for life - serving at least 37 years.

They were found guilty of the murder of Miss Moss, who was celebrating her 24th birthday when she was killed, and the attempted murder of Ms Gachette. 

The trio have been jailed in total for 111 years.

The families of the victims cheered at the Old Bailey as judge Stephen Kramer sentenced them in front of a packed courtroom in London today.

During the trial, the jury were told how the women were gunned down outside a fast food restaurant in Kilburn, London on August 24 last year.

The innocent friends were not the intended targets of the shooting but were shot as they sheltered from the rain with a group of about 15 others.

The court had heard how Miss Moss had taken the day of August 23 off work to get ready for her birthday and met friends at her home.

She had recently moved into a new flat with her partner and their four-year-old son.

Warren, Hussain and James had planned the shooting carefully and carried out surveillance on their targets before their attack by the Woody Grill.

The women were near the targets of the shooting, who were members of the South Kilburn Gang.

Hussain fired the Mac 10 "spray and pray" machine gun six times and James fired both barrels of the shotgun at near point blank range.

The pair then fled in a car driven by Warren after the shooting.

Police said the machine gun which killed Miss Moss had been used before in the West Midlands and in London in 2009, 2012, and January last year.

Neither of the guns involved in the shooting of Miss Moss and Miss Gachette have ever been recovered.

During his sentencing, the judge said the shooting was "indiscriminate but targeted".

He told them: "It is clear that what you did that night will have had a lasting medical and physical effect on Miss Gachette and the family of Miss Moss."

He said Hussain, who described the Mac 10 to a witness as his "baby", had an "unhealthy interest" in guns and shooting.

The defendants, along with Simon Baptiste who acted as a "spotter" for the group, were also found guilty of conspiracy to cause grievous bodily harm.

Hussain, Warren and James received 12 years each and Baptiste four years in jail for that offence. All the sentences were ordered to run concurrently.
