The ink reads: "Dream big, be unrealistic" – a quote attributed to the lyricist.

The footballer turned fashion designer showed off the new addition to his 32 tattoos at an event promoting his new collection for Belstaff in New York City. 

The inking comes just weeks after David attended a Jay-Z and Beyoncé concert at the Rose Bowl in LA, as part of the music power couple's On The Run world tour. 

Perhaps it was also inspired by his wife Victoria, who tweeted the quote to her followers on the night of the show.

"'Dream big, be unrealistic' - Jay Z at the Rose Bowl last night, Beyonce and Jay Z #ontheruntour, AMAZING!!!!", she wrote. 

And it seems that they're not the only Beckhams who count themselves as fans of the 99 Problems rapper. 

The couple's 15-year-old son Brooklyn was spotted at another Jay-Z gig with his love interest, actress Chloe Moretz. 

Former England captain David, had the words penned on the back of his right hand just above his knuckles, one of the only blank spaces left on his body.

David got his first tattoo in 1999, a Gothic style 'Brooklyn' to mark the birth of his first child. 

Since then, the athlete has covered his entire torso with dozens of tattoos, many of which are dedicated to his family including the names of his other sons Romeo and Cruz.

Daughter Harper has a tribute across the 39-year-old's collar bone while 'Victoria' is scrawled across his inner left arm.

Other distinctive tattoos include an angel with its wings spread across across his back, a Chinese proverb on his ribcage and, on his chest, an image of Jesus being lifted up by three cherubs.
