Supermoon worsens monster tidal wave in China washing away spectators

Chinese spectators fell to the ground after being hit by the gigantic wave, which reached heights of almost 11.5ft. The power of the river, in Hangzhou city, eastern China, is usually forceful and the strong tides do rise every year. But this year, affected by the supermoon, the tide proved even stronger and left some spectators injured after they crowded to watch the spectacle on the bank. The huge torrent usually falls on the 18th day of the eighth month in the Chinese lunar calendar.
Last year, this area of China was hit by Typhoon Trami and caused a similar phenonmenon. The bore is caused by incoming tides surging into the "trumpet-shaped" mouth of the river. Tidal bores can be seen in several locations around the world, including the River Severn in the UK.
