Don't judge a woman by her selfies

Karen Danczuk told Bryony Gordon her critics shouldn't judge a book by its cover. Now we know why

Karen Danczuk is the woman whose love of cleavage-filled selfies has always seemed at odds with the work of her husband, the Labour MP Simon Danczuk, and his campaign to shine a light on allegations of historic sex abuse at Westminster.

But now we learn that she is actually the inspiration for it, and that the pictures are an act of defiance after a childhood of being raped by a family friend.

“I used to cover my body, wear head-to-toe black clothes so I didn’t draw attention to myself,” the 31-year old revealed yesterday. “Finally I realise this isn’t my fault. I can have fun without feeling ashamed of myself.”

Danczuk was attacked by Janet Street-Porter for setting a bad example to the girls in her home town of Rochdale.

Louise Mensch described her as “Westminster’s most embarrassing wife”. And when Danczuk asked Harriet Harman for a photo, she says the Deputy Leader of the Labour party told her she was “too pretty” to be in politics, and should instead consider Girls Aloud.
